TEO Applauds Senate Passage of Legislation Expanding School Choice

Texans for Education Opportunity Founder and Chair Stacy Hock issued the following statement after the Texas Senate passed House Bill 21 in a bipartisan effort early this morning. HB 21 is a comprehensive education bill providing for an additional $530 million in public school funding, charter school facility funding and an Education Savings Account program for children with special needs.

“Texans for Education Opportunity applauds Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Chairman Larry Taylor and the Texas Senate for making important strides in education choice by passing HB 21. Thousands of children with special needs are now that much closer to getting the options they deserve – but this fight is long from over. For families and students across the state, the Texas House must act now to adopt these provisions and pass this smart, sound legislation into law.”

With one week left in the 85th legislative session, HB 21 will now return to the Texas House for further consideration.
